Basics of Intuitive Eating and
How it Can Enhance Your Client’s Belief in Themselves
Every day we are instructed on how we should eat: Eat more of this, and absolutely stay away from that, monitor your portions and don’t eat after 7 pm.” We end up not trusting our ability to regulate our own food intake. Think about it. We eat multiple times a day, every day, and are told we are incapable of doing it without someone else telling us how to do it. Over time, this can erode a person’s sense of efficacy and can take time and energy away from more important pursuits. Intuitive eating is a valuable adjunct to therapy, whether or not your client has an eating disorder. Learn the basics of intuitive eating, why it is trustworthy, how it can help your clients feel better about themselves, and how you can subtlety shift your client to this internal trust approach to eating and weight.
